The Dress

If you dream of walking down the aisle in an elegant, ball gown with a figure-flattering cut, and corset detail, this is your dress! This now "vintage" dress was custom designed by Francesca Guzzo-Whyte (when she was Francesca Guzzo;1997) in her Toronto studio, now known as Whyte Couture. It's 100% silk with a lace panel, corset detail, and silk rosettes at the neckline. It has a full skirt, with a bustle, which can be worn with or without a crinoline. Worn once, it was immediately professionally cleaned and preserved in a keepsake box for more than 20 years. The box has only been opened recently to take these photos.

This dress is one-of-a-kind. The stays make it forgiving and figure-loving. It will easily fit size 8-10. It is a custom fit, but I was closer to size 10 on measurement day and a size 8 on the wedding day. It fit perfectly, even with weight loss. It's comfortable to wear for hours and hours, but elegant, feminine, and very flattering. I'm just over 5'4" and wore 3" heels. Matching drawstring purse with rosettes included. There's some mild discoloration from years of storage--expected from 100% silk. It will need to be cleaned by a professional prior to wearing.

History: after seeing a few dresses in bridal magazines from this designer, I called the phone number in the advertisement to find out where to buy her designs. She asked which dress I was looking at and I told her there was more than one. At the time, there were only a few boutiques in the United States carrying her designs--none in Denver. She asked what I liked about the dresses I was looking at and I told her the bodice of one, the neckline of another and the lace inlay of a third. She offered me the option of traveling to her studio in Toronto to come up with a custom design. Since I would have had to travel anyway, I thought, "What the heck!?". What I got was a bespoke dress with design elements I wouldn't even have thought about, but absolutely loved. I felt beautiful in this dress and I love to look through my wedding photos. Having the perfect dress is a big part of a wedding day and I would love to have this dress be part of someone else's perfect day. We are relocating overseas and have very limited space in the shipping container. It's much too beautiful to sit in a closet! The dress has been stored in a non-smoking home.
