The Dress
** I have dropped the price to get this lovely dress sold. Would LOVE to see another bride enjoying it, rather then it hanging unused in my wardrobe! Not to mention, you will be getting one heck of a bargain...**
This gorgeous champagne coloured gown was hand-sewn out of a combination of tea-dyed Alencon lace, embroidered lace and a matte satin. The colour is a lovely warm tone and was chosen to bring out the golden colours in my skin tone.
The lace has been carefully shaped around the bodice and follows the curve of the body to accentuate the shoulders and waist. It also rises up from the train at the rear and on the sides. The lace has been appliqued slightly asymmetrically to play up its pretty detailed pattern. There is a beaded trim around the full edge of the train.
The main body of the dress is made from a firm, but silky, matte finish satin. (Unfortunately, I can't remember the technical name for this). The matte finish means it brings some shine but doesn't highlight any wrinkles or bumps! The dress was fully cut on the cross so the skirt flows very elegantly and moves with the wearer.
There is a lining which finishes below the knee. And there is a small hook sewn internally under the train to hold it off the floor for dancing, etc.
There are lovely pearl buttons with elastic closures running down the back, stopping at the lower back. These add a real elegant touch. They also disguise a zip which actually closes the dress - it won't come undone on you!
The veil is included. This was also tea-dyed to colour match and is a simple long veil. It ended up with some wrinkles which i couldn't get out. But it still looked great in combination on the day.
I have sized the dress as an 8. I would say the bodice leans more toward a small 8 (perhaps a 7?), with a smaller bust.
I poured many many hours into designing, drafting a pattern, selecting materials, carefully sewing and hand appliqueing the lace for this dress. It was an absolute labour of love. It would be wonderful to see another bride enjoying this beautiful gown.
I estimate that the retail value for this gown would be around $3000, given how many hours I spent on it!
As a side note, I have sewn other gowns, including a wedding gown and ball gowns.
I am based in Mt Eden, Auckland.
