The Dress
This dress is a 360 dress; it is stunning from every angle. Berta dresses are always dramatic, unique and exquisite and this one is pure magic.
The bodice is covered in little pearl beads and has sequins sewed into the lace to give it a bit of shimmer without being over the top. It’s got a delightful set of buttons all the way up the back and fitted to just around the knee before flaring out. I’ve worn it with a crinoline underneath to enhance the shape. Without a crinoline it falls more sleekly to the feet.
We planned (and executed) some serious dancing at our wedding so I knew that I didn’t want much by way of a train. This hit the spot - it has enough shape and drama that it breezily held its own while being a great dress to dance and get around in.
I am not the first owner of this dress, but it is an authentic Berta and the dress retains its original tags and the cardboard Berta label it came with. This dress has a bit of a fan site, here: https://bertabridalsale.wordpress.com/, or you can find the site by searching "12-16 Wordpress used Berta”. It helped me see enough of the dress to be comfortable buying it without having tried it on (though I had tried on enough Berta dresses to know what they were like, and that I would love this one).
I live in central London and welcome try-ons. The dress has a little bit of give so if the measurements aren’t exact, particularly in the waist/shoulder area, there’s a little bit of wiggle room. However, if you happen to be blessed with much larger hips than I have, this isn’t an area where the dress has much give.
My measurements are:
Height with (smallish) heals: 168cm
Bust: 32", b cup
Waste: 28"
Hips: 36"
Please note that there is some wear on the very bottom hem of the dress as it’s spent a little time out and about already. However, it’s not noticeable unless you’re looking for it and I would wear it in its current condition again without question or alteration.
Alterations
It is in fine shape, though it is no longer suited for an inordinately tall lady as it might have once been. Also, there was some wear on the the tulle where it just touched the ground, causing it to roll up ever so slightly. When I took it to the tailors they added a band of heavier tulle mesh to the inside of the bottom skirt. As a result it has a more pronounced finish than the original but it looks like it was made this way.
